The Mphahlele family lineage is traced back to Thakamangana and Matlale who had settled at Ga Thaba, part of the Ga Molepo region situated in the Polokwane Local Municipality within the Capricorn District of the Limpopo province, South Africa.

Thakamangana and Matlale were blessed with seven children and the bloodline will branch out to the current generation from these seven children.
